Surface Sealant & Deterioration
Within months of an asphalt or macadam surface being laid, the ageing process starts and the pavement begins to deteriorate, becoming ravelled through the loss of sand “fines” and small aggregates. Historically this decline has been an accepted consequence of bituminous materials and the general culture has been one of purely reactive maintenance once the surface has reached the point of being in a dangerous condition. At this stage the downward spiral continues until such stage the surface becomes unusable and is replaced with new asphalt or macadam material. This historical and unnecessary approach towards asset management is extremely costly, disruptive and damaging to the environment.
The Rhinoseal Solution
Rhinoseal is a rapid, spray-applied restorative comprising a Rhinophalt primer followed by Rhinoseal. The treatment fills voids and small cracks, adds texture and levels minor depressions. It also seals the surface from moisture penetration in order to provide long-term resistance to weathering. Like Rhinophalt, Rhinoseal contains Gilsonite and other proprietary agents that combine to make the process many times more weather and oxidisation resistant than conventional treatments. Rhinoseal cures to a seamless, rich matt black, aesthetically pleasing finish. Work can be compartmentalised and re-marking is possible immediately following application. Rhinoseal is completely sustainable and can be re-applied every four to five years.
