Multi-storey Car Parks Asset Management
Whether it be in a town centre, airport, retail park or office complex, multi-storey car parks provide an essential addition to the nation’s infrastructure. Generally constructed out of inter-linked reinforced concrete sections, these parking assets assist with the accommodation of the 30 million vehicles in the UK whilst their owners are otherwise occupied through work, shopping or travel. Generally ‘pay and display’ facilities, the owners and operators of these car parks obviously have a strong preference for minimal maintenance and the associated disruption.
With reinforced concrete construction, these multi-storey car parks are prone to the effects of concrete degradation through the effects of freeze/thaw, ion penetration and alkali/silica reaction. Any failure in these structures can be catastrophic, as witnessed in Pipers Row where a 120 ton section of the top deck collapsed in 1997. Conventional methods of protecting these concrete structures can be extremely expensive, often toxic with extensive containment requirements, and, in many cases, with questionable effectiveness.
ASI’s Chem-Crete Pavix process provides a quick, safe, cost effective and environmentally friendly solution to the problem of concrete protection with multi-storey car parks. This single coat and permanent treatment uses unique crystal forming technology to prevent the ingress of moisture, and other damaging reactions, to the concrete sections. The environmentally friendly nature of the material minimises site disruption and is completely safe for the applicators.
